Metaplanet, dubbed the “Japan version of Strategy,” was found to have spent about $400 million in the first quarter to purchase more than 5,000 bitcoins (BTC).
Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s chief executive officer (CEO), said on X that the company “purchased 5,075 bitcoins in Q1 for a total of $405.4 million” on the 2nd (local time). Gerovich added that “the average purchase price per bitcoin was about $79,898.”
With the latest buying, Metaplanet’s bitcoin holdings increased to a total of 40,177. Total acquisition cost stands at $4.18 billion, with an average purchase price of $104,106 per bitcoin.
Bitcoin is trading in the mid-$60,000 range as of today. According to CoinMarketCap, bitcoin was trading at $66,778.9 as of 5:08 p.m. today, down 2.63% from the previous day. That is about 4.7% lower than a week ago.
