Blockstream has introduced a new transaction-signing method on a Bitcoin (BTC) sidechain to counter threats from quantum computing. It is seen as a technical response aimed at preparing for changes in the future security landscape.

According to crypto-asset (cryptocurrency) media outlet CryptoPotato on the 3rd (local time), the official Blockstream Research blog said SHRINCS, a post-quantum security signature scheme, has been deployed on the Bitcoin Liquid sidechain.

This implementation was carried out without changing the network’s core rules. It adds new security conditions by leveraging Blockstream’s smart-contract language, Simplicity.

As a result, users can strengthen the level of asset protection in preparation for potential quantum-computing-based attacks. A key feature is that it expands security functionality while maintaining compatibility with existing systems.

Earlier, Google’s Quantum AI team said in a report that Bitcoin could be exposed to quantum-computing attacks sooner than expected. This has fueled calls to adopt related security technologies.
