Tensions in the Middle East are rising after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned the US and countries in the region that it could escalate its military response.
Walter Bloomberg reported on April 7 that the IRGC said in a statement that if the US crosses its red line, Iran’s response would extend beyond the Middle East.
The statement added that its patience had run out and warned that it would strike infrastructure belonging to the US and its allies. It also said oil and gas supplies in the region could be disrupted for years, threatening energy markets.
Separately, reports said the same day that Kharg Island, Iran’s main crude oil export hub, had come under attack several times. Markets are bracing for possible energy supply disruptions and increased volatility.
