Iran warned of a forceful response to any US military action and said a confrontation could spread across the Middle East. Markets are watching tensions rise as negotiations remain absent.

Walter Bloomberg, a channel that posts international economic news alerts, cited a senior Iranian source as saying on April 7 that a US attack on Iranian power plants would cause a total blackout across the region and in Saudi Arabia.

The source also said Iran's allies would block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait if the situation spirals out of control.

The source added that Qatar had conveyed a message to the US regarding a strike on Iran's power plants.

Iran also kept a hard line on negotiations, saying there are currently no talks with the US and that Washington is seeking Iran's surrender through pressure.

Iran would show flexibility only if the US does the same.
