The White House said there has been no change in President Donald Trump’s core conditions for negotiations with Iran, including a demand that Tehran halt uranium enrichment inside the country.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on June 8 that “the president’s core condition has not changed” and that it includes ending uranium enrichment in Iran, according to Reuters.
Leavitt said Iran had submitted a revised proposal scaled back from its earlier 10-point offer. The proposal is being reviewed as a possible basis for negotiations with the US.
Trump and his negotiating team consider the revised proposal negotiable, she added. But she rejected the possibility of an agreement that would simply accept Iran’s demands as they stand.
Iran had previously put forward terms including a ceasefire, a US troop withdrawal, sanctions relief and the continuation of uranium enrichment. The two sides still remain apart on key issues, leaving the fate of the talks uncertain.
