French President Emmanuel Macron sharply criticized Israel's airstrikes on Lebanon, saying they risk undermining the ceasefire agreement.
CNN reported on June 8 that Macron described the Israeli strikes as "indiscriminate" and said they threatened the durability of the recently reached ceasefire.
Macron said he spoke with Lebanon's president and prime minister to express France's solidarity. The attacks pose a direct threat to the sustainability of the ceasefire that had just been agreed, he said, adding that Lebanon must also be included within its scope.
Israel said the strikes targeted about 100 Hezbollah command posts and military facilities, though damage was also reported in civilian areas of Lebanon.
Macron said he delivered the same message to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump. The ceasefire was the best option, he said, and it can endure only if it is observed across all areas of fighting.
Separately, Trump was reported to have said that NATO allies did not provide enough support to the US during the conflict with Iran.
