Iran warned on June 7 that ships near the Strait of Hormuz would be destroyed unless they received transit clearance from the naval arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The warning came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump referred to a two-week ceasefire. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that he would agree to halt bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks if the Islamic Republic agrees to the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Wall Street Journal reported that most ships were anchored in the Strait of Hormuz, that Iran was still trying to exert influence over the waterway, and that fighter jets remained in the skies over the Persian Gulf. Against that backdrop, the newspaper said Trump is considering a system under which the U.S. and Iran would jointly collect tolls in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump told an ABC reporter that the U.S. was considering a joint-venture approach to collecting the tolls. He said it would be a way to protect the strait from many other forces and called it a beautiful thing.
