Tether Visits South Korea Ahead of Circle, Meets KB Financial and Coinone

Tether, the issuer of the dollar stablecoin USDT, recently visited South Korea and held talks with local companies including KB Financial Group, industry officials said on April 9.

Tether staff traveled to South Korea earlier this month and met with KB Financial officials to discuss potential cooperation, according to the officials. In September last year, KB Financial Group also discussed cooperation with Bo Hines, chief executive officer of Tether's US entity, Tether USA. A KB Financial official described the latest meeting as a working-level discussion.

Tether staff also contacted South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Coinone during the visit, the officials said.

Jeremy Allaire, chief executive officer of Circle, the issuer of USDC, is also set to visit South Korea on April 13. He plans to meet with local exchanges including Upbit, Bithumb and Coinone. Meetings with financial groups including KB Financial Group, Shinhan Financial Group and Hana Financial Group are also planned.
