Polkadot has suspended some functions and launched an investigation after a problem emerged with a bridge on the Ethereum network.
On Aug. 13, Polkadot said on X that it was aware of an issue with the Ethereum gateway contract for Hyperbridge. The bridge has been temporarily paused while the matter is investigated.
The project said the impact appears limited. It affects only DOT issued on Ethereum through Hyperbridge. Native DOT within the Polkadot ecosystem, along with assets moved through other bridges, has not been affected.
Earlier, signs emerged on the Ethereum mainnet that about 1 billion DOT tokens had been minted without authorization and sold, raising the possibility of a hack. The market has pointed to a possible smart-contract vulnerability or abuse of token minting authority, though the exact cause has not been confirmed.
Polkadot said its network, parachains and native DOT all remain safe.
