Elon Musk said Tesla has completed the design of its in-house artificial intelligence chip, AI5.

In a post on X on April 15, Musk wrote that Tesla's AI chip design team had completed the "tape-out" of AI5. He added that AI6, Dojo 3 and other chips are also in development.

In the semiconductor industry, tape-out is the stage when a chip design is finalized and sent to a foundry. It marks the start of prototype production.

AI5 is Tesla's next-generation AI chip and is set to be used in the company's full self-driving, or FSD, vehicles and humanoid robots.

Musk also thanked Samsung Electronics Co. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., or TSMC, for helping enable production of the chip.

Musk said during an earnings announcement last year that Samsung and TSMC would participate in AI5 production.

In the latest post, however, he mistakenly tagged Taiwanese chipmaker TSC instead of TSMC.

TSC responded through its official account: "Humans can make mistakes. It's okay."
