U.S. Central Command released a video on June 15 warning that it would use force against ships that fail to comply with a maritime blockade of Iran.
The 26-second video, posted on X the same day, says the US has formally declared a blockade of ports along Iran's coast and that the move is lawful. It tells vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports to turn back and stop sailing.
"Do not attempt to breach the blockade," the video says. "If you do not comply with the blockade, we will use force." It adds that the U.S. Navy is prepared to enforce it.
The video also says ships traveling to and from Iranian ports could be boarded for inspection and seizure, and instructs them to change course and prepare for boarding.
Central Command said U.S. Navy vessels were patrolling the Gulf of Oman.
President Donald Trump shared the video on Truth Social without comment. The move was interpreted as reaffirming Washington's determination to maintain a maritime blockade of Iran and increase pressure ahead of possible negotiations.
The first round of U.S.-Iran talks to end the war was held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on June 11, but ended without an agreement. Talks could resume as early as June 16.
