Bithumb has partnered with Shinsegae Point to offer a promotion that gives shoppers at E-Mart and affiliated stores part of their spending back in Bitcoin.

The crypto exchange said on April 16 that it has launched the “Mystery Double Rewards” event, under which users can earn both Shinsegae Point and Bitcoin on purchases at E-Mart, Traders, E-Mart Everyday and No Brand. Users can receive 1% of their spending back in Bitcoin, capped at 5,000 won ($3.60) a month.

To participate, users must agree to link the partnership through the Bithumb app or the E-Mart, Shinsegae Point or E-Mart Everyday apps. When they link their accounts for the first time, purchases made over the previous 90 days will also be recognized. After a set period, users can apply for the rewards through the Bithumb app.

Existing users can receive up to 5,000 won ($3.60) worth of Bitcoin. New users can earn 10% of their purchase amount, capped at 50,000 won ($36), and will also receive separate investment support funds and points.

The companies are also running a prize event through May 17 to mark the partnership. Users who link the services and spend above a certain amount will be entered automatically for a drawing for prizes including Korean won, gift certificates and points.

The promotion is open to users who have completed know-your-customer, or KYC, verification and registered a Korean won account. Bithumb plans to expand partnerships that connect everyday spending with virtual assets.
