Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, speaker of Iran's parliament and a representative of Tehran in negotiations, said a ceasefire in Lebanon is as important as a truce involving Iran.

Iran's state-run Press TV reported that Qalibaf made the remark in a phone call on June 16 with Nabih Berri, Lebanon's foreign minister. He said efforts had been made to ensure that enemies in all conflict zones abide by agreements and uphold a permanent ceasefire.

Qalibaf also stressed that the US must honor the agreement. In a post on X, he wrote that the resistance front and Iran are one and the same, whether in war or during a ceasefire.

Separately, Reuters reported on June 16, citing multiple Iranian sources, that US and Iranian negotiators had lowered their goal to securing a temporary memorandum of understanding aimed at preventing a resumption of clashes. Reuters said the shift came after talks in Islamabad over the weekend ended without a clear breakthrough. Iran's nuclear program remains the main sticking point, despite optimism from Pakistani mediators about progress in the negotiations.
