HancomWith has launched a physical gold-backed stablecoin and on-chain financial services as it pushes into the real-world asset, or RWA, tokenization market. The move aims to position gold not just as a store of value, but as a financial asset.
Edaily reported on April 21 that HancomWith rolled out its gold tokenization platform ONTORIUM and on-chain finance service AQUA for global markets. ONTORIUM issues the stablecoin OXAU backed by 99.99% pure gold certified by the London Bullion Market Association, or LBMA.
OXAU is pegged one-to-one to physical gold, with the serial numbers of the gold bars also recorded on the blockchain. That structure allows users to verify their holdings and track moves in gold prices with greater transparency.
HancomWith is seeking to go beyond simple token issuance by adding financial functions. AQUA provides on-chain services such as deposits and loans using OXAU as collateral, and is designed to support 24-hour liquidity use.
The project also draws on the operating experience of Hancom Gold Exchange to bolster trust in an offering backed by physical assets. HancomWith said it chose the Arbitrum network to improve processing speed and fee efficiency.
The global RWA market has grown to about $30 billion, and gold-backed stablecoins are gaining attention because they are tied to relatively low-volatility assets. HancomWith plans to expand into other asset classes including bonds and real estate.
"ONTORIUM is infrastructure that converts physical assets into digital finance," Chief Executive Officer Song Sang-yeop said. He added that the company plans to build out functions spanning lending, payments and yield generation.
