Iran said it has fully restricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz, limiting the movement of all vessels, in a sign of renewed tensions in the Middle East.

BlockBeats, a crypto-focused media outlet, reported on April 21 that Iran had blocked access routes to the Strait of Hormuz after the US violated a ceasefire agreement. All navigation is now under the strict control of the naval forces of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, it said.

Iran said no ship would be allowed to pass through the strait unless the maritime blockade is completely lifted. The restriction applies to both civilian vessels and warships.

Markets are focused on whether tighter controls over the Strait of Hormuz will heighten concerns over disruptions to crude oil supply and add to volatility in energy markets. Prolonged tensions in the region could also ripple through global financial markets.
