Iran has yet to issue an official position on the US announcement of a ceasefire extension, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Tasnim reported on April 22 that some media outlets had said Iran had formally agreed to the extension, but the government had not released an official statement on the matter. Iran is reviewing multiple aspects of President Donald Trump’s claim that the ceasefire would be extended, the outlet reported. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has not issued any statement on a “formal ceasefire agreement,” it added.

Trump abruptly declared an extension of the ceasefire on April 21. He did not specify how long it would last. He said the truce would remain in place until Iran presents a “unified negotiation proposal” and talks are concluded.

Separately, Axios reported on April 22, citing multiple sources, that the US is willing to extend the ceasefire with Iran by three to five days. Trump announced the extension but did not provide a specific timeframe. A US official briefed on the matter told Axios that the ceasefire “will not continue indefinitely.”
