The White House said President Donald Trump has not set a separate deadline for receiving a unified proposal from Iran.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on April 22 that, contrary to some media reports, the president had not imposed a fixed timeline for Iran to submit its proposal.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump also rejected reports of a three-to-five-day deadline and said he is not rushing talks with Iran.
Trump had previously said he would extend the ceasefire until he receives a unified negotiating proposal from the Iranian government and talks are concluded.
The question of whether a deadline had been set drew attention after Axios, citing unnamed officials, reported that Trump was willing to give Iran roughly three to five more days under the ceasefire.
Leavitt said Iran is facing an internal struggle between pragmatists and hard-liners, adding that the president wants a single, unified response from Tehran.
She added that while the ceasefire remains in place on military and physical strikes as Washington waits for Iran's response, Operation Grand Fury is continuing, along with a naval blockade on ships traveling to and from Iranian ports.
Leavitt said the president is satisfied with the current situation as he waits for Iran's response.
