The White House has criticized China over the alleged theft of US artificial intelligence technology, the Financial Times reported on April 23.
Citing a recent memo from Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the FT reported that the administration had obtained information showing that foreign actors based mainly in China were deliberately trying to steal advanced US AI systems. Those actors were using tens of thousands of proxy accounts to evade detection and jailbreaking techniques to extract proprietary information, Kratsios wrote.
The White House is also reviewing possible responses to the alleged theft. In the memo, Kratsios said the administration would share information with US AI companies about what he described as industrial-scale attempts by foreign actors to steal technology, helping them coordinate a response. He added that the administration also plans measures to hold those foreign actors accountable.
