President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by three weeks and that the US will help Lebanon defend itself against Hezbollah.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on April 23 that the ceasefire would be prolonged for three weeks. He added that the US would work with Lebanon so it can defend itself from Hezbollah.
He said he held talks at the White House that day with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, together with senior delegations from Israel and Lebanon. Trump described the meeting as having gone very well.
He also said he plans to invite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House in the near future, raising the possibility of further summit diplomacy.
Trump called the meeting historic and expressed hope for greater stability in the Middle East.
