Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi returned to Pakistan a day after visiting Oman.
Iran's state-run IRNA news agency and other outlets reported on April 26 that Araghchi flew back to Islamabad immediately after meeting Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said in Oman. He then held additional talks with Pakistan army chief Asim Munir and other officials.
Tasnim News Agency reported that the return trip was not a routine diplomatic visit, but was meant to convey specific demands tied to negotiations to end the war. Those demands included a new legal framework for the Strait of Hormuz, compensation for war damage, guarantees against renewed aggression and the lifting of a maritime blockade.
Iran also drew a line around the scope of the talks. An official said the discussions were focused on conditions for ending the military conflict and had nothing to do with the nuclear issue.
After completing his Pakistan trip, Araghchi is due to travel to Moscow. Russia's Foreign Ministry is preparing high-level talks during the visit, according to reports. Iran's ambassador to Russia also raised the possibility of a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on April 27. The talks are expected to cover the status of negotiations to end the war, the ceasefire and changes in the regional situation.
