Iran, Russia Deepen Cooperation as Foreign Minister Araghchi Visits Moscow

High-level talks between Iran and Russia are underway as the two countries deepen military and political cooperation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently traveled to Moscow and is holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the overseas financial news account Walter Bloomberg on April 27.
The meeting underscores a push to strengthen bilateral ties as tensions in the Middle East escalate and friction with the US persists. The Kremlin said the importance of the talks would be difficult to overstate.
Iran and Russia have expanded military and intelligence cooperation since the war in Ukraine began. Iranian Shahed drones have reportedly been used on the battlefield in Ukraine, while Western officials believe Russia has provided Iran with satellite intelligence and targeting data.
Markets are watching whether the closer cooperation could affect energy markets and add to geopolitical tensions.
