At least seven vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, underscoring a continued drop in traffic since the outbreak of the Iran war and ongoing strains on energy and logistics supply chains.

Reuters reported on April 27, citing ship-tracking firm Kpler and data analytics company ShipX, that at least seven vessels transited the strait over the period.

The ships included several that departed Iraqi ports and one bulk carrier that left an Iranian port. Reuters said the latest tally was consistent with the decline in vessel traffic seen over the past several days.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for shipments of Middle Eastern crude oil and petroleum products. Before the Iran war began on Feb. 28, an average of 140 ships passed through the waterway each day. Traffic has continued to shrink since the conflict started.

US Central Command said on April 25 that it had redirected 37 vessels elsewhere after beginning a blockade of Iran. If reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz persists, it could add pressure to crude shipments and global maritime logistics.
