Iran's foreign minister revealed the backdrop to President Donald Trump's request for negotiations.
Crypto-focused media outlet Walter Bloomberg reported on April 27 that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on Telegram that Trump had sought talks because the US had so far failed to achieve its objectives. Araghchi added that Iran is reviewing the request.
Negotiations between the US and Iran have remained deadlocked, repeatedly breaking off and resuming in recent months. Trump has previously said talks could be held by phone if Iran wants them.
Markets view whether the two sides resume negotiations as a key factor that could influence tensions in the Middle East and volatility in energy prices.
