Toku, a stablecoin payroll company, has introduced a feature that lets employees earn interest as soon as they receive their pay. The move broadens the use of stablecoins beyond payments into savings and yield generation.

Crypto media outlet The Block reported on April 28 that Toku had integrated Amplify, the DeFi platform from Paxos Labs, allowing employees to earn returns on part or all of their wages.

Toku provides an API that connects with existing payroll systems such as ADP and Workday. The company currently processes more than $1 billion in token-based payroll annually across more than 100 countries. With the new feature, users can start earning interest immediately after their pay is deposited.

Toku Wallet runs on Privy, Stripe’s non-custodial wallet solution. That means users can retain control of their assets and generate yield without entrusting funds to a third party. Both principal and interest can be withdrawn at any time, with no lockup or waiting period.

Users can choose whether to earn yield on wages paid in USDC, USDT and USDG. Paxos Labs operates on a model in which it receives a share of the yield, and it aims to provide on-chain financial services to corporate clients.

Industry participants view the launch as a notable example of yield-bearing features being introduced to the stablecoin payroll market. They say it could accelerate fintech and corporate adoption of on-chain systems.
