The volume of oil released from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, or SPR, rose sharply, underscoring continued efforts to manage energy supply.

U.S. Energy Information Administration data released on April 29 showed crude releases from the SPR over the latest week reached the highest level since October 2022.

The increase was aimed at adjusting crude supply and stabilizing prices.

With volatility in global oil prices increasing, the U.S. government's policy of tapping its emergency stockpiles is drawing renewed attention.

Markets are watching the impact of larger SPR releases on near-term supply, as well as whether additional releases will follow. The policy could become a key variable for energy prices.
