Iran has sent the US a 14-point response in peace talks, proposing terms that include a full end to the war and the withdrawal of US troops rather than a simple extension of a ceasefire.

CNN reported on May 2 that Iran delivered the 14-point document to the US through a Pakistani mediator. The proposal includes ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

The US had originally proposed a two-month ceasefire, according to the report. Iran rejected that offer, insisting that all issues be resolved within 30 days. Tehran also wants the talks to focus on a complete end to the war rather than an extension of a temporary truce.

The proposal also includes guarantees against military aggression, the withdrawal of US forces from areas around Iran, the release of frozen Iranian assets, the lifting of economic sanctions and a new policy for the Strait of Hormuz.

Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, told state broadcaster IRIB on May 2 that the proposal is aimed at bringing the war to a permanent end. The decision now lies with the US on whether to choose diplomacy or continue a confrontational approach, he added.

President Donald Trump, speaking the same day, said he would review the plan soon but was skeptical it would be acceptable.
