Iran’s delegation at recent ceasefire talks with the US in Islamabad blocked any discussion of nuclear issues under strict instructions from the country’s supreme leader, according to details disclosed by an Iranian lawmaker.

On May 2, Mojtaba Zarei, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, revealed details of the Islamabad negotiations in a post on X.

Zarei wrote that the basic precondition for the Islamabad talks was securing the supreme leader’s approval. Both Iran’s participation and the substance of the negotiations had to stay within a framework approved by the supreme leader.

He also drew a firm line on the nuclear issue, a key point for the US side. Zarei said the Americans wanted to discuss nuclear technology, but Iran’s delegation made clear that the supreme leader had barred any discussion of the issue’s technical details.

He added that all future decisions related to nuclear matters will be made entirely by the supreme leader. In line with that position, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran was also barred from joining the delegation.
