US Navy destroyers have transited the Strait of Hormuz and are now operating in the Persian Gulf, underscoring an expansion of military activity as maritime tensions persist in the Middle East.
US Central Command said on May 4 that guided-missile destroyers passed through the strait in support of "Project Freedom" and are currently conducting operations in the Persian Gulf, according to a post by Walter Bloomberg on X.
The mission is intended to support vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Markets are watching how expanded US naval activity could affect tensions in the Middle East and the stability of oil supplies.
