Global financial institutions say blockchain-based tokenization is entering commercial use, underscoring an ongoing shift in traditional financial infrastructure.

CoinDesk reported on May 5 that executives from major financial firms including Citigroup, JPMorgan and DTCC said at Consensus 2026 that tokenization has moved beyond the pilot stage and into commercial deployment.

They said the technology is more likely to improve existing banking systems than replace them.

Blockchain-based systems are also spreading gradually through live transactions and real customers, the executives added.

While tokenization is unlikely to remake the financial system all at once, it is continuing to drive structural change.

Markets are closely watching how the technology could reshape financial infrastructure. Wider real-world adoption and greater institutional participation are expected to be the key variables ahead.
