U.S. private-sector hiring rose less than expected in April.
ADP said on May 6 that U.S. nonfarm private payrolls increased by 109,000 from the previous month. That was 9,000 below economists’ forecast of 118,000.
The gain was 47,000 higher than in March, when private payrolls rose 62,000.
The ADP employment report is typically released about two days before the U.S. Labor Department’s official jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and is often seen as a preview. Still, it does not always move in the same direction as the government data.
