President Donald Trump said Iran would see a “massive flash” if it refuses to sign an agreement.
The New York Times reported on May 7 that Trump made the remark while speaking to reporters during a visit to a construction site at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Negotiations are going very well, he said, adding that clashes between the two countries in the Strait of Hormuz that day had not disrupted ceasefire talks.
Trump brushed off Iran’s attack as minor. “That was a small thing,” he said. “We totally wiped them out.” Asked what would happen if Iran rejected the deal and the ceasefire collapsed, Trump said Iran would see “a massive flash” and should quickly sign the agreement.
Trump said the document, which has been described as a one-page agreement, was “more than that.” He said the terms would essentially prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons and require it to hand over nuclear-related materials to the US.
Asked whether Iran had accepted US demands, Trump said it would not mean much even if Tehran agreed because it often changed its position the next day.
