Iran condemned what it said was a US attack on its tankers.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on May 8, cited by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, that the attack occurred between late May 7 and early May 8. The ministry called the “aggressive and provocative” action a clear violation of the March 8 ceasefire agreement. It claimed the US attacked two Iranian tankers near the Strait of Hormuz.
Tasnim also reported that Iranian forces seized one tanker in nearby waters.
The US and Iran resumed clashes in the Strait of Hormuz on May 7, one day after talk emerged of a possible negotiating phase.
