US forces carried out additional strikes on several tankers trying to breach Washington’s sea blockade of Iran, according to a foreign media report.

Reuters reported on May 8, citing a social media post by a Fox News reporter, that the tankers were not carrying oil. The ceasefire remains in place, but tensions are rising as US and Iranian forces continue clashes of varying intensity.

US Central Command said the previous day that it launched the strikes after Iranian forces fired missiles and drones at three US destroyers passing through the Strait of Hormuz and deployed small boats. Iran said the US firing on Iranian tankers trying to break the sea blockade violated the ceasefire, and that its attack on the US warships was retaliation.

President Donald Trump said the ceasefire remained in effect. However, he said the US sea blockade of Iran would remain in place.
