Iran has again raised the prospect of negotiations, on the condition that the US halt military pressure and adopt what it called a rational approach.
BlockBeats, a digital-asset media outlet, reported on May 10 that Khalil Sheikholislami, Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, made the remarks in an interview with Armenian television. He said a deal would be possible if countries that carried out what he described as illegal aggression against Iran returned to rational and logical policies and actions.
Sheikholislami said the military actions of the US and Israel showed that military force, pressure and threats alone could not make Iran surrender or accept extreme demands.
Iran remains open to a negotiated agreement, he said, but it needs a clear guarantee that the US will launch no further military attacks.
The envoy also said Iran opposes selective interpretations of international law and will never give up its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The US and Iran have recently continued ceasefire negotiations, but military tensions near the Strait of Hormuz and mutual pressure have persisted. Markets see both sides leaving the door open to talks while continuing to test each other over the terms of any agreement.
