US Republican lawmakers are pushing to add a provision permanently barring the issuance of a central bank digital currency, or CBDC, to a housing bill.

A Cointelegraph post on X on May 19 said Republicans are seeking to include the ban in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.

The bill is set to go to a vote in the US House of Representatives this week.

Republicans have consistently argued that a federal CBDC could expand financial surveillance and infringe on personal privacy.

Since President Donald Trump's return to office, the party has increasingly favored a digital-asset policy centered on private-sector stablecoins.
