President Donald Trump said May 18 that talks with Iran to end the war were nearing an agreement and that he would be satisfied if any deal barred Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Trump made the remarks at a White House event on lowering drug prices when asked why he had said on social media that he would postpone resuming a military strike on Iran scheduled for May 19.
He said a leader of a Middle Eastern allied nation who had asked him to delay the attack believed negotiations with Iran were on the verge of a deal and had requested a short postponement of two to three days.
"If we can do that, and if Iran does not get a nuclear weapon, then if they are satisfied, I think we will probably be satisfied too," Trump added.
