Wintermute Launches DeFi Vault Platform Armitage to Tap Institutional Capital

Crypto market maker Wintermute has launched Armitage, a vault-curation platform for decentralized finance, or DeFi.

The Block reported on May 19 that the platform is designed to let institutional investors gain indirect exposure to DeFi lending and liquidity strategies based on preset risk parameters.

Vaults automate capital allocation and rebalancing, allowing users to participate without managing strategies themselves. Wintermute said Armitage is non-custodial and does not require know-your-customer, or KYC, checks during deposits.

Vault-based strategies have been growing rapidly in DeFi as institutional money enters the market. Morpho on Ethereum and Kamino on Solana are among the leading examples.

Wintermute said it can support collateral assets that other platforms may struggle to accept, citing more than $10 billion in daily trading volume and experience operating across more than 50 blockchain networks.

The firm added that its in-house liquidation capabilities allow it to handle collateral types that are difficult for other curators to support.

Chief Executive Officer Evgeny Gaevoy said that as the DeFi lending market grows, strategy and risk-management capabilities are becoming more important than simple access. Vaults are becoming core infrastructure for institutional inflows, he added.
