Hester Peirce, one of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s most prominent pro-crypto voices, will step down in November. Her planned departure is drawing market attention as investors weigh whether the U.S. approach to digital-asset regulation could shift.

BeInCrypto reported on May 20 that Peirce will leave her post as an SEC commissioner in November after being appointed an associate professor at Regent University School of Law.

Peirce joined the SEC in January 2018.

She is widely known in the crypto industry by the nickname “Crypto Mom” and is regarded as one of the agency’s most crypto-friendly commissioners.

She has publicly criticized former SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s hard-line, enforcement-focused regulatory approach.

The SEC is currently operating with three commissioners following the recent resignation of a Democratic member.

BeInCrypto said the direction of U.S. digital-asset regulation could hinge on whom the White House picks to replace Peirce.

Markets are watching how the exit of a pro-crypto SEC commissioner could affect U.S. regulatory policy and the operating environment for crypto companies.
