The US aircraft carrier strike group centered on the USS Nimitz has arrived in the Caribbean near Cuba, adding to signs that tensions between واشൺգտൺ and Havana are rising again.

CNN reported on May 20 that US Southern Command announced the Nimitz carrier strike group had arrived in the Caribbean near Cuba.

The group is reported to include the aircraft carrier, its embarked air wing and at least one guided-missile destroyer.

The Trump administration also announced on May 20 that it would indict former Cuban leader Raúl Castro.

Cuban authorities had previously expressed concern that the US indictment could serve as groundwork for military intervention.

Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was also indicted by the US and transferred to the country in a US military operation in January this year, where he is now standing trial.

The US has recently intensified military pressure in Latin America, citing regional security, drug trafficking and sanctions issues.

Markets are watching how escalating tensions between the US and Cuba could affect geopolitical risks in Latin America and broader diplomatic relations.
