Iran said it will not charge transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz and added that any potential agreement with the US would include ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Walter Bloomberg, an overseas markets news account on X, reported on May 25 that an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, "We will not charge transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz."

He added that some future services may require payment, but those charges should not be described as transit fees. The remarks appeared intended to reject speculation that Iran could impose separate fees related to management of the Strait of Hormuz.

The spokesman also addressed the scope of a potential agreement, saying an end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, would be part of the deal.

Iran had earlier said talks with the US had reached conclusions on several issues, but that a deal was not close to being signed. It also said there are currently no plans to send a delegation to Pakistan.

Markets are watching the comments on the Strait of Hormuz and the broader course of negotiations over ending the war as factors that could affect global oil prices and sentiment toward risk assets. Iran has remained cautious on suggestions that a deal is near, leaving both expectations and uncertainty in play.
