Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on May 28 that it had attacked a US air base in response to American airstrikes.

Reuters, citing Iranian state media, reported that the Revolutionary Guard said it carried out a targeted strike on a US air base at about 4:50 a.m. on May 28. Iranian state television and other state media said the Guard launched the attack after US forces struck Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, which Tehran identified as the source of the assault.

In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard described the US airstrike as an act of aggression. It added that a more decisive response would follow if such attacks were repeated, and said responsibility for the consequences would rest with the aggressor.

Iran did not identify the base it said it had targeted. But missile activity was detected in Kuwaiti airspace on the same day, raising the possibility that the target was a US military base in Kuwait.

Kuwait’s military said in a post on X on May 28 that the country’s air defenses were responding to a hostile missile and drone attack. Kuwait hosts Ali Al Salem Air Base, where US forces are stationed.

Ali Al Salem Air Base has been cited as one of the main US military sites Iran could target in the current conflict.
