Blockchain lottery platform Megapot has launched an on-chain charity lottery to support Ethereum core developers, in a move that highlights new approaches to funding maintenance across blockchain ecosystems.
CoinDesk reported on May 28 that Megapot introduced an on-chain lottery that sends part of ticket-sale proceeds to Ethereum core developers.
The report said all referral fees generated during ticket sales will also be directed to developers. Megapot said the initiative aims to address funding shortages for engineers responsible for maintaining the Ethereum network.
The lottery's prize pool currently stands at about $1.1 million, the report said. The entire process is conducted on-chain, in a structure designed to strengthen blockchain-based transparency.
The launch comes as discussion grows around the need to maintain critical infrastructure in the Ethereum ecosystem and support open-source developers. Some developers have struggled to secure stable funding despite maintaining core network technology.
