Iran's military fired a missile late on May 28 at an unidentified target, Fars News Agency reported.

Fars said Iranian military authorities launched the missile from the country's south.

Some sources raised the possibility of an armed clash at sea in the Persian Gulf.

Some media outlets also reported explosions in Iran's Bushehr and Hormozgan provinces, though those reports remain unconfirmed.

Tasnim News Agency, citing an air defense report, said the blast originated at sea. It said the explosion occurred during warning fire at a vessel that had transited the Strait of Hormuz without authorization.

The US and Iran are trying to finalize an agreement ahead of signing a memorandum of understanding to end hostilities, but small-scale clashes between the two sides are heightening tensions. Iranian forces sent five suicide drones toward vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and the US scrambled fighter jets to shoot them down. The US later carried out an airstrike on a drone-control facility in Bandar Abbas, Iran.

Iran then attempted a ballistic missile strike on Kuwait, where a US air base is located, in response to the US airstrike, the report said. Kuwait's military intercepted the missile, according to the report.
