Bithumb Launches Asset-Protection Campaign, Pushes Post-Quantum Security
Summary
- Bithumb said it is launching a customer asset protection and security campaign focused on protecting user assets and strengthening security awareness.
- Bithumb said it stores customer assets separately in cold wallets and uses MPC-based distributed signing technology and a multi-approval system to reduce the risk of asset losses.
- Bithumb said that alongside its participation in FIRST, it is pursuing the adoption of a post-quantum cryptography (PQC)-based security system, the first such move among domestic virtual-asset exchanges.

Bithumb said Friday it is launching a customer asset protection and security campaign aimed at safeguarding user funds and strengthening security awareness.
The move comes as financial crimes in the virtual-asset market become more sophisticated, including account theft, voice-phishing scams and attempts to induce users to disclose authentication information. Through the campaign, Bithumb plans to introduce its strengthened security systems and provide users with security guidelines.
Bithumb said it currently keeps customer assets separately in cold wallets, an offline storage method, at levels above regulatory standards. It also uses distributed signing technology based on Multi-Party Computation, or MPC, to reduce the risk of asset losses from a single server hack or abuse of authority by a specific administrator.
The exchange has also applied a multi-approval system to asset transfers. Under the segregation of duties, or SoD, principle, request, review and approval procedures are operated independently, and Bithumb said it is improving security processes to minimize how often cold wallets are exposed externally and limit points of contact.
Bithumb is also strengthening its response framework for global security threats. The exchange said it is a full member of FIRST, the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams, and shares threat information in real time. It is also pursuing the adoption of a security system based on post-quantum cryptography, or PQC, the first such effort among domestic virtual-asset exchanges.
Bithumb also urged users to enable two-factor authentication and use features that block access from overseas IP addresses. As virtual-asset crimes evolve rapidly, investment in platform-level technology and security controls is increasingly important, a company official said. The exchange said it will focus on creating an environment where users can trade with confidence.
