President Donald Trump convened a meeting on a peace agreement with Iran but left without making a decision, the New York Times reported.

The newspaper reported on May 29 that the meeting in the White House Situation Room ended without a conclusion.

Citing administration officials, the Times said the meeting lasted about two hours and Trump made no decision on a deal with Iran. The administration believes the US and Iran are close to an agreement, but some issues — including the release of frozen Iranian funds — remain under discussion.

Earlier that morning, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he would meet in the Situation Room to make a final decision on signing a memorandum of understanding to end the war with Iran.

He also reiterated the conditions for an agreement, including a ban on Iran possessing nuclear weapons, the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz without transit fees, and a US-led effort to extract and destroy Iran's highly enriched uranium.

Iran disputed Trump's description of the terms. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told state media that talks with the US are currently proceeding on a limited basis and do not include the nuclear issue.

Whether the two sides can reach an agreement to end the war remains unclear.
