Foreign investors were net sellers of more than 44 trillion won in the Kospi this month, the largest monthly outflow on record.

Data from the Korea Exchange on May 31 showed foreign investors were net sellers of 44.715 trillion won worth of Kospi shares this month. That marked the biggest monthly net sale by foreign investors in the Kospi on record. With the index having surged this year, the selling was attributed to profit-taking by overseas investors.

Foreign investors were also net buyers in the Kosdaq market. They bought a net 2.837 trillion won worth of Kosdaq stocks this month, also a monthly record. The buying was attributed to rising expectations that Kosdaq-listed companies could benefit from the recent launch of the National Growth Fund.
