President Donald Trump has toughened the terms of a ceasefire proposal with Iran, the New York Times reported.
Citing multiple sources, the newspaper reported on May 30 that Trump recently added stricter conditions to a tentative agreement aimed at securing a ceasefire between the US and Iran. It said Washington had sent the revised proposal back to Iran for review, though it remains unclear how Trump changed the terms.
Trump is said to have expressed concern about language related to unfreezing Iranian funds. He has long criticized the Obama administration over cash payments to Iran.
The Times also reported, citing a US official, that Trump was frustrated by Iran's slow response to the US proposal. The official said the revised draft may also be intended to pressure Tehran to accept the basic framework that had already been presented.
