President Donald Trump has sought changes to clauses covering Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz in a ceasefire agreement with Tehran, Axios reported.

Axios reported on May 31 that Trump instructed aides at a White House meeting on May 29 to revise provisions related to Iran’s nuclear program in a recently agreed preliminary ceasefire memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.

The existing memorandum stipulates that Iran’s nuclear program will be discussed during a 60-day ceasefire period. Top priorities include how to handle Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and limits on additional enrichment activity.

Trump is seeking revisions to the nuclear provisions. A senior US official told Axios that the clause on highly enriched uranium is “closer to details on how the US would secure the nuclear material and what the specific timeline would be.”

Trump also directed changes to language on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Axios and other outlets said he was told it would take about three days to receive Iran’s response to the proposed revisions.
