President Donald Trump said the US is close to what he called a “very good deal” with Iran.

In a Fox News interview on May 30, Trump said the one guarantee he must secure is that Iran does not have nuclear weapons. He said Iran had agreed to that condition and added that a good deal cannot be rushed.

Trump also stressed the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He said the waterway should be opened immediately and allow free passage. There also should be no transit fees, he added.

He said any agreement that is not in the US interest would itself be a “red line.” If he does not get the outcome he wants, Trump said, he would end the war another way. He added that if talks collapse, he would seek the involvement of the Pentagon, which he referred to as the War Department.
