President Donald Trump said he has not received any official notice that Iran has suspended negotiations with the US, countering reports that the talks had been halted. Markets are closely watching whether the US-Iran negotiations will continue.

Walter Bloomberg reported on June 1 that Trump said he had “not heard that from Iran” in response to reports that Tehran had stopped negotiations.

Some Iranian media outlets and officials recently suggested that talks with the US could be suspended because of airstrikes in Lebanon and rising tensions in the Middle East. The US, however, says it has not been formally notified of any halt in the negotiations.

The US and Iran are continuing talks on extending a ceasefire, resuming nuclear negotiations and restoring normal conditions in the Strait of Hormuz. Recent reports said the two sides had reached a political-level understanding, but the Iranian government has said no final agreement has been reached.

Investors are assessing whether the course of the US-Iran talks could affect global financial markets, including crude oil, gold and the dollar.
